My Weekly Adventure: I’ve been interviewed!

Guys, I’ve been interviewed! The lovely Aryn of the SUPER awesome Weekly Adventure Blog asked me a bunch of questions about writing, querying, books, books, books, and TONS more fun stuff about the whole road-to-publishing journey.

If you’d like to check it out (please, please do! I will cuddle hug you forever:)) here is the link—> INTERVIEW

Here’s a little snippet from the Q&A:

WA: On your blog it reads, “Novelist by day… rogue foodie by night.” what is your very favorite style of food?

KM: Oh my gosh, how much time and space do we have? I love it all. I’m a huge fan of fusion food, so I’m always experimenting with bold flavors. I’m on a HUGE curry kick right now (I just made curry mashed potatoes), but I love Spanish, Dominican, Mexican, and Italian foods with unexpected flavor twists tossed in. (Like pairing Thai flavors with classic Italian.)

WA: Tell me about your current book project.

KM: The project that’s currently under consideration is a YA futuristic thriller. It’s set in NYC and is about a 16-year-old girl who’s unknowingly being turned into the ultimate biological weapon by a government obsessed with achieving genetic perfection.

WA: What is your “dream” project?

KM: My dream project right now is some sort of YA light science fiction dealing with…. To read more check out the link! (EVIL, I KNOW. I HEART YOU.)

Hope you are having an amazing day! Can you believe it’s the second week of January already?!

5 1/2 Things I Am MOST Grateful for This Year.

Since 2011 is winding down and 2012 is almost upon us – I thought I’d share the five and a half things I am MOST grateful for this year. So here we go!

1.) I am grateful for the writing community. Writers are a special group of people; Maybe even the best. (I might be biased, though.:)) They pick you up when you feel buried in rejection. They force you to do ALL THE THINGS you think you can’t do. They endlessly cheer you on – it’s kind of like having that REALLY REALLY GOOD friend who holds/held your hair back while you are/were praising the porcelain bowl. I digress. Really, I don’t know how I’d manage the publishing journey without all of you, my wonderful writing friends. You are the sun that my world revolves around and I heart you so, so much.

2.) Manuscript Critters and beta readers. HOLY CHIPOTLE GUACAMOLE. You guys. NO SERIOUSLY YOU GUYSSS. You know who you are, and I’m so grateful to have had your magical/awesome/sparkly eyes on my work. My book would be NOWHERE near as awesome without you. AND SERIOUSLY I MAY NEVER EVER KNOW WHERE ALL THOSE PESKY COMMAS GO BECAUSE I HAVE A TENDENCY TO RAMBLE IN REAL LIFE, TOO. Thank you for making me be the best writer I can be. I’m totally giving you a semi-awkward squeezing-the-life-out-of-you GINORMOUS hug right now. No really, I am.

3.) My social networking crew. Including my blog friends, my tweet hearts, and everyone that reads my music column. I am so awed by how amazing you all are, thank you so much for sharing almost every single day with me on the interwebz. You bring laughter, warm sunshine and fluttery butterflies into my soul. I’M SO SERIOUS. I heart you all so much more than you will ever know. Thank you for all the silly banter, book recommendations, #WW’s, #FF’s, the INFAMOUS PANTY MEME, random musings on life and creativity, and of course the fabulous #GOATPOSSE. You enrich my world. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

4.) My parents, my sister, and my friends. What can I say? You guys are the fairest of them all. You support me when I shut myself off from the rest of the world. You allow me to go MONTHS without coffee talk, or normal people stuff like doing laundry, getting dressed in real people clothes, and EVERYTHING ELSE I neglect while I’m balls deep in a project. You allow me to chase after my dreams, and are there for me no matter what. How blessed am I to be surrounded by such amazing people all the time? (Or, realistically, when I’m out of my reclusive hermit shell.) Thank you for giving me the freedom to spread my wings and fly. You never cage me, and one day I can only hope to repay all of you for your unwavering love. I love you all so very much.

5.) I am also grateful for: Dark chocolate covered marzipan squares. I know, I know..RANDOM. BUT BUT BUT this little lactard can’t indulge in milk chocolate treats, and I just found this place that delivers the best BEST BEST chocolate covered marzipan in ze whole entire UNIVERSE and therefore, it makes the list of things I’m super grateful for. Also, i’m grateful for run-on sentences apparently. BUT OMG THE CHOCOLATE IS SO GOOD I CAN’T HELP BUT SAY SO MANY THINGS WITHOUT PUNCTUATION BECAUSE CHOCOLATE AND WRITING GO SO HAPPY FACED TOGETHER, THEY REALLY REALLY DO. O.O

5 1/2.) To everyone who has asked where they can purchase or review my book this year, your faith in my ability to create a world you’d want to spend an entire day in is humbling. I can’t even express to you how incredible you make me feel. YOU KEEP ME GOING – I am so beyond grateful for you. Hopefully 2012 will bring some publishing news that I can share. Until then, I’m CRAZY lucky that you are here to fill my heart with so many amazinggggg feelings. I am giving you a bone crushing bear hug, which is more pleasant than it sounds. Pinky swear. 😉

Happy holidays to you and your family and everyone you love. I hope the coming year brings you everything your heart desires and more. <333333

The Evil Panty Meme Rides Again

Um, so, this one time on Twitter…I may have thought it was a REALLY good idea to harass one of my friends into creating an evil panty meme. Hey, it felt like the right thing for a Tuesday morning. Being that all of my friends on Twitter are AWESOME, she obliged. (I’m talking about @MichelleSimkins, so totally twitter stalk follow her.)

And then…oh, yes, she tagged yours truly. And that was a SHAMEFUL two almost three months ago, and holy guac am I red in the face.

It’s only fair that I (FINALLY) post the underoo wonderoo, er, evil panty meme! Be sure to stop by Michelle’s blog ‘green woman’ for more of her super fab posts.

So here it is, the already infamous panty meme. The rules are, of course, copy the questions, answer them, and tag others to do the same.

What do you call your panties/underwear/undergarments? Do you have any commonly used nicknames for them?

I refer to my undergarments as undies. Yes, I am in my twenties and I’m not actually five. No, I am not ashamed. UNDIES FTW!

Have you ever had that supposedly common dream of being in a crowded place in only your underwear?

I wish, er, wait that came out wrong. I’m usually in “le buff” wondering what the hell I drank, and where, OH WHERE are my shoes?!

What is the worst thing you can think of to make panties out of?

Spiders. Big. Dead. Spiders. Gargantuan tarantulas. MILLIONS OF THEM. Go on and scream with me.

If you were a pair of panties, what color would you be, and WHY?

Can I say invisible? Not like, peek-a-boo butt cheek kind-of-invisible, but OMG her legs are detached, how is that torso walking, and why-is-she-terrorizing-the-neighbors invisible. What do you mean invisible’s not a color?!

Have you ever thrown your panties/underwear at a rock star or other celebrity? If so, which one(s)? If not, which one(s) WOULD you throw your panties/underwear at, given the opportunity?

NEVER! maybe james franco NO ONE! maybe james franco VICTORIA NEEDS TO KEEP HER SECRETS!!!!! maybe james franco

You’re out of clean panties. What do you do?

Whip out a sewing box, grab scissors, find a sacrificial shirt and get to work. These are all lies, naturally. I don’t sew.

Are you old enough to remember Underoos? If so, did you have any? Which ones?

Sadly, no, no, and no. But I did google them, and I’m going to have a talk with my mother. I COULD HAVE BEEN WONDER WOMAN!!

If you could have any message printed on your panties, what would it be?

I’m not sure, but I’ll tell you one thing: if a guy I’m dating EVER has a message on his undies boxers that says “welcome to the jungle” I’ll probably be terrified. For MULTIPLE reasons.

How many bloggers does it take to put panties on a goat?

Three. One to grab the back legs. One to man the panties. And one to document the phuckery for Youtube while peeing her panties.

If you’re still reading my answers, consider yourself tagged! And then let me know on twitter, or here when you post your answers. Keep the evil panty meme alive!

Oh, and just because I’m not “officially” tagging anyone doesn’t mean your time isn’t coming…

The evil panty meme is like a ninja lurking in the night. You have been warned.

Blog that sparks MY soul!

Holy Helvetica, I’m so darn honored you guys! The wonderful (and super talented author pal of mine) Anita Grace Howard, has bestowed my humble site with the ‘Blog That Sparks the Soul Award.’ Here’s what she said on her blog last week that warmed my heart:

Also, I’d like to thank Kerri Maniscalco for her blog of many hats: Write. Eat. Repeat. — a place of peace, inspiration, and witticisms. Kerri not only writes novels, but is a Folk Arts Columnist and always has beautiful and inspirational quotes on her twitter feed that warm my heart throughout the day. So to show my gratitude, I’m bestowing her this:”

Thanks so much for saying all those wonderful things Anita! If you all haven’t followed her yet on twitter, do so now! Her handle is @aghowardwrites. Not only does Anita run a mighty fine blog herself, if you’re a writer, she’s probably cheered you on in the query trenches on If you’re a part of that community, then you already know her as, raven1.

Stop by her blog A Still and Quiet Madness. She’s always got something wonderful going on there. You won’t be disappointed!

Happy #WW (Writers Wednesday) to her and all of YOU out there. For good measure, here’s a quote:

In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out.  It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being.  We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.” ~Albert Schweitzer

PS One of these days soon I’m going to figure out some fun awards and pass them along too! <33333333333333

Please stand clear of the turkey, thank you.

It’s the Monday before Thanksgiving and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a… wait a minute. That’s complete bull! I’m stirring – and I’m not talking about the holiday gravy yet.

Even with all the early holiday warnings broadcast over radio and television waves, I’ve managed to avoid grabbing the traditional turkey. Which can only mean one unfortunate thing: I’ll have to stand in line at the super market fighting off all the other last minute domestic goddesses for the perfect bird to stuff.

So women (and men) of New York, if you see this little lady coming down the aisle in your local grocery store – stand clear. This foodie’s on a mission. Anthony Bourdain – I’m talking to you too pal, please stand clear of the poultry.

I’ve got a serious case of Holiday Anxiety and it isn’t pretty kids. It’s one part procrastination and two-parts neurosis. However, my second novel is coming along fabulously, which is an even greater mystery.

On a serious note, I’d like to send a very special shout-out to my Twitter friends. I’ve really had a lot of fun getting to know you over the last three or four months. There are so many talented people that I’m humbled to now know. So holiday stressing aside – thank you for being AWESOME, I’m most thankful for YOU this year.

What are you most thankful for? Let me know in the comment section or @reply me on Twitter.

Trick-or-treat extended tweet!

Halloween is definitely one of my favorite holiday’s… EVER. It may have a little something to do with my love of all things mysterious and paranormal. Or it could just be my undying obsession with horror movies, pumpkins and things that go bump in the night.

Either way, what’s not to love about dressing up like a ghoul and taking candy from strangers? It’s the one day we’re told to forego the advice of our parents and threaten our neighbors to hand over sugary treats, or reap the consequences. (Trick-or-treat anyone?)

Speaking of parents… My parents got married on Halloween, which is an awesome story, and maybe one day I’ll write about it. (Watch out Wes Craven and John Carpenter.) Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad, love you to death!

In all seriousness, I’d like to wish you all a very spook-tacular day.

Be safe, get in the ‘spirit’ of things, play some tricks, get some treats and have some fun on this last day of October.

Happy Halloween – Eat, drink and be scary!!!
