I am THRILLED to share this story and these characters with you. Thank you to everyone who’s been there from the very beginning, to those who’ve been hanging out with me on this blog and social media for the last seven years, and to all my new friends who’ve shared the excitement leading up to today.

STALKING JACK THE RIPPER, my gothic, feminist novel, now belongs to you, dear readers. I hope it transports you to gritty Victorian London. And I hope that it entertains you while taking you on an adventure that slowly unravels and twists and turns and keeps you unsure until the grand reveal.

Please tag me in any photos of SJTR in the wild! I am going to live vicariously through each of you today, and then I’ll be hitting the store and taking pics of my book baby in the real. Oh my gosh. That’s an actual thing I can do.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

pre-pub: Stalking Jack the Ripper updates

Five days left until publication….Honestly, I don’t know how it’s possible. I’m excited. I’m nervous. I’m thrilled. I’m hyperventilating. I’m so ready for it and so terrified. I never knew it was possible to have so many emotions all happening simultaneously. That laughing and crying and being anxious could all intermingle at once. That something so nerve-wracking could also bring so much joy.

My very first novel is almost in the world, and then it no longer belongs to me, this precious book baby that I’ve loved and nurtured and cared for. It will soon belong to all of you.

Five days. Less than a week. Oh. My. Gosh. I’m so ready, are you????

Fun things to round up before my next publication day post (!!!!!!!):

Phantom Rin has included SJTR merchandise in her shop. I swear I’m going to save my pennies and order EVERYTHING. SJTR-themed dresses and pillows and phone cases and wall art and more. What a dream come true to have my characters featured along with some amazing fandoms!

I also have Phantom Rin to thank for surprising me with this FREAKING FANTASTIC tour graphic. I’m one of her illustrations and it’s SO COOL!!!!

Next, I teamed up with Brittany from Novelly Yours to create a STALKING JACK THE RIPPER-inspired candle. Initially, I’d placed a custom order for special door prizes for launch day, but when she asked if I’d like to make it a public listing I jumped at the opportunity. I know not everyone will be able to make it out to the cities on tour, and thought it was a great way for everyone to have their own special SJTR swag.

Guys? I might be biased, but the scents I chose and the way Brittany worked her magic with bringing them together…this is the best candle EVER. I haven’t stopped breathing them in since they arrived this week. If you’d like to check it out, please do so by clicking here. The candles have blood splatter and are this fantastic gray with darker gray swirls to evoke the image of a foggy London night. In fact, I named them (actually my mom came up with the name!) FOGGY KNIGHT. It’s a play on a vigilante group in SJTR.

EEEEEEEE! I cannot believe the next post I’ll be sharing is as a published author (!!!!!!!!!). I’ve been waiting YEARS AND YEARS for this and cannot believe it’s really happening.

Cheers to this next chapter!

I’m deep into my book two deadline and haven’t had as much time to post as I’d like. BUT I have to say one thing…Oh. My. Gosh. I am blown away by ALL. THE. SUPPORT. You are making this debut experience bigger and more amazing than I’d ever dreamed it could be.

Thank you. Thank you for all the tweets and retweets and posts and bookstagrams and friendship across all of my social media platforms. Your reviews and word of mouth recommendations are so very humbling and help more than you know. ❤

Fun things are coming up soon, and I wanted to share a little sneak preview with you today. I’m absolutely in love with PhantomRin’s art–I mean, have you seen her original works??? So much talent. When she agreed to collaborate with some STALKING JACK THE RIPPER designs I nearly fainted. Please check out her tumblr and instagram and twitter and everywhere you can.

Without further adieu…here is one of her sketches of my main characters, Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell. Can you believe September is less than two months away?!?!?!

Teaser Tuesday – Stalking Jack the Ripper; Ides of March Style

When we first read Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar in high school, one of the minor characters I was IMMEDIATELY taken with was the soothsayer. He utters the cryptic line, “Beware the Ides of March,” and to this day I can’t help saying it in an overly dramatic/ominous tone.

It was such a small, but significant detail. And the creepy factor? My goodness. Having someone run up and say something awful is going down on a certain date really drums up a little heart-pounding fear. Will Caesar heed his warning? Has his fate been predetermined? We know the outcome LONG before going into it that it doesn’t end well for Caesar, but the soothsayer still added an underlying tone of suspense.

I mean, the guy only had nine lines in the entire play, but his words were a ghost constantly haunting readers. At least, that’s what this reader thought. 😀

What does ANY of this have to do with my teaser Tuesday? Well. Today is the Ides of March, friends. *insert scary music* Since my book is rather on the creepy/gothic side, I’d like to share one of my favorite lines from Stalking Jack the Ripper. It’s from a scene where Audrey Rose promises to be “as silent as the dead” while attending her uncle’s forensic class in disguise. Hope you enjoy it!

“The dead speak to those who listen.” – Stalking Jack the Ripper

Oh! I do have some VERY EXCITING news coming your way in the next week or two. I’m just saying, maybe some other kind of artwork is involved….

Book Review: AWAKEN by Katie Kacvinsky

Recently I picked up a copy of Katie Kacvinsky’s debut, AWAKEN. And holy BEJESUS I loved it. She created a world that really isn’t that different from how we live today. It’s chilling, and amazing.

My sister and I were discussing how strange it is to actually pick up the phone and call someone. Which made us incredibly SAD. When did texting, and g-chat, and IM, and email replace our basic human communications?

How did we not see it unraveling?

Our own mother was shocked to discover most of our communication is done via some electronic device. AND WE LIVE UNDER HER ROOF.

The digital times, they are a-changin’ and if you want to have your mind blown, I suggest adding AWAKEN to your reading pile. It’s an eye-opener. Here’s the blurb for good measure:

“Maddie lives in a world where everything is done on the computer. Whether going to school or on a date, no one ever leaves home. There’s really no need. And, for the most part, Maddie’s okay with the solitary, digital life–until she meets Justin.

Justin likes being with people. He likes physical closeness and face-to-face conversations. People aren’t meant to be alone, he tells her.

Maddie is beginning to believe him. Maybe there is a different, better way to live, and perhaps Justin will be the one to help her start living it.”

Overall I give it 4 out of 5 stars. The only thing that *almost* was overdone was Justin’s one-track preachy nature. BUT that’s kind of an accurate portrayal, since he’s been brainwashed into his own preferred (read: “programmed”) existence. Kacvinsky demonstrated holes in his belief system perfectly. (Even if they make you want to shake him sometimes!:))

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and can’t WAIT to read the second one when it comes out next year. The author created a world so real, it doesn’t feel dystopian at all.
