18 days until publication (!!!) and Cressworth items for your bookish collection

guys…there are only 18 days left until HUNTING PRINCE DRACULA is in the world!!!! HOW on earth has it already been a year since STALKING JACK THE RIPPER came out??? (side-note, there are just over two weeks left to snag a MEETING THOMAS CRESSWELL novella, don’t forget to upload your receipts to claim one!)

i am so blown away by the complete and utter outpouring of love and support for these characters and stories. you guys make this even more amazing and i hope you know how much i appreciate you and your positive word of mouth excitement. i have a few fun things to share that i hope you’ll adore as much as i do.

i get asked often on social media about book related goodies and where to purchase them and am listing out a few AMAZING Cresswell and Wadsworth merch for yourself or the book lover in your family. (i figured it would be easiest to have a post with them, so everyone who’s interested has an easy place to find links.)

Behind the Pages store has created amazing “Cressworth” merchandise (soap, lip balm, perfume, lotion + more) and it is one of their September “ships of the month.” It means it’s an exclusive item that will only be available for the month of September only. If you’d like to snag it (and you SO do… they are to die for), definitely don’t wait or they’ll be gone.

Phantom Rin is the extremely talented artist behind the character cards you see posted here and various places online. One of the questions I get asked the most is where to find the character cards, and those can be found in her store along with postcards, stickers, t-shirts, journals and so much more.

Wick and Fable also has Miss Wadsworth and Mr. Cresswell candles and i can attest to how great they both smell. they’re so pretty i haven’t been able to burn them yet, though!

Behind the scenes pics from the STALKING JACK THE RIPPER cover shoot

Oh. Em. Geeeee. You guys have been INCREDIBLE with your early support and love of STALKING JACK THE RIPPER! I have been so impressed with all the bookstagrams and photos on instagram and twitter, and all the excited tweets and buzz. Y’all are seriously amazing. I can’t even describe how much your excitement means to me. Seriously. Each tweet or message or note is a treasure that I’m going to hoard forever. To celebrate all of the excitement over SJtR, and to say thank you, I thought I’d share some exclusive behind-the-scenes pictures from the cover shoot. Sound good?!

All cover shoot photos were taken by my super-talented and lovely editor, Jenny Bak. (The ARC picture is from my personal photo library.) Enjoy this sneak peek at the hard work that went into the cover we all adore so much.

Thank you to art director Tracy Shaw and uber talented photographer Carrie Schechter for bringing Audrey Rose and Victorian London to life.

Now onto the good stuff!!!!

Every badass Victorian girl needs a good dagger while stalking infamous killers, luckily we had plenty to choose from:

Great hair is also a must. The makeup artist was a complete genius with taking our modern model and giving her that authentic Victorian feel.

STALKING JACK THE RIPPER made the 2016 BEA Buzz Panel!

We got the news a few weeks ago that STALKING JACK THE RIPPER had made this year’s BEA YA Buzz Panel, and it has been SUPER hard keeping this kind of secret from everyone. I’ve gotten a few questions from people outside of the industry about what it all means, and am posting some answers taken directly from the press release.

What is BEA, exactly? BookExpo America (BEA) is North America’s largest gathering of book trade professionals attracting an international audience. The event is widely known as an ideal place for content creators, media, booksellers, rights professionals, and movie and television executives to meet new authors, discover new books, learn about trends shaping the book industry, and network with those who have a passion for books and reading. BEA is foremost a gathering place for creative writers and thinkers and the commerce they create. It is recognized for the media attention it brings to upcoming books as well as for the notable authors it attracts to the convention itself. BEA is organized with the support of association partners including the Association of American Publishers (AAP) and the American Booksellers Association (ABA).

What’s the Buzz Panel? The Buzz Panels are divided into three categories – BEA Adult Editor’s Buzz, BEA Young Adult Editors’ Buzz, and BEA Middle Grade Editors’ Buzz – and cover a wide range of topics this year exploring race, love, family, and more

BEA Buzz has a powerful track record of predicting the year’s hottest books, selecting nine titles over the past two years that made it onto the The New York Times Best Sellers list.

“BEA has had a good track record in selecting upcoming bestsellers and I think that once again this crop of authors is likely to become household names in the coming months,” said Steve Rosato, event director. “We’re happy with these selections and look forward to exploring these works further at BEA.”

How are the books chosen? The selection process was made by three separate committees of booksellers, librarians and other industry professionals. BEA officials note that the intensive selection process, which takes place over a two and a half month period, always involves passionate debate over the finalists. The selection committees are purposely designed to achieve the widest possible consensus.

I think I might be living in a dream world and hope to never, ever wake up if that’s the case. A few titles from previous Buzz Panels include:

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Duff by Kody Keplinger

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Room by Emma Donoghue

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

and many, many more.

So yeah. Totally. Blown. Away. I cannot believe that my book made the panel, and will probably be pinching myself for the rest of my life. Thank you so much to Barbara Poelle, Jenny Bak, and JIMMY patterson books for taking a chance on a gothic story about a determined girl who takes on Jack the Ripper.

See you all in Chicago this May!

an ode to the precious and some gemma doyle fangirling

my latest book haul!

my latest book haul!

books are such magical things. we can open them and be transported to new worlds, new times, and new adventures. we can laugh and cry and shake our fists along with our favorite characters, and we can fall in love and have our hearts broken with them, too. my ya gothic horror is on submission right now, and i’m in the midst of researching and drafting out my latest project to keep from obsessively checking emails from my agent. i’m also binge-reading a bunch of books and loving every second of this part of work. here are a few titles from my recent book haul that i’ve been super excited about reading.

A GREAT AND TERRIBLE BEAUTY – Libba Bray

ETIQUETTE AND ESPIONAGE – Gail Carriger

A COLD LEGACY – Megan Shepherd

RED QUEEN -Victoria Aveyard

omg the gemma doyle trilogy??? where has it been all my life. so. effing. good. i bought the other two books and am eagerly* awaiting their arrival. i cannot believe it’s taken me so long to get into them.

what debut are you most looking forward to? and what are some of your favorite creepy books? i need to add some more titles to my (ever) growing list!

*by eagerly awaiting i mean pacing back and forth, cursing the mail for being late, and breaking out into a cold, i-NEED-it-now sweat. the next step will be rocking in the corner and smacking my gums until the precious arrives. not pretty.
