ESCAPING FROM HOUDINI pre-publication note to readers

CAN YOU BELIEVE PUB DAY IS ALMOST HERE?!?!?! ONE MORE WEEK! holy heck…i seriously cannot believe the THIRD book is about to hit shelves. to hold you over until release day, i’m revealing the Moonlight Carnival characters along with some facts about them on my social media. (the fist two have already been unveiled, so check out my facebook, instagram, or twitter this week for details!)

here’s a little bit of what you can expect from this next mysterious adventure.

Escaping from Houdini is a dark Victorian story filled with illusions. it explores the line between fantasy and reality, and how that sometimes blurs. everyone aboard this ship is a performer in their own way, each playing a role. danger lurks when you play pretend, though, and complications often arise.

EFH reveals a different layer of feminism—one where the choice of who you share your heart with is just as empowering as your choice in career. it boldly states that young women should make choices based on their own needs instead of fear.

this particular journey is not only a literal journey across the sea, but an emotional one, too. while traveling across the ocean, a ship often encounters turbulent waters, and this story is filled with ups and downs, both small and grand in nature. i hope your stomach aches with unexpected laughter and your heart pounds as well as flutters. i hope this journey gives you a tremendous emotional experience—one that is brimming with love and heart break, indecision and ultimately redemption. life often gives us storms, but it’s how we weather them that shows our true character.

above everything else, i hope for a few hours you’ll fall under the spell of the Moonlight Carnival. that perhaps you, too, might start to question the motives of your favorite characters. maybe you’ll discover sleight of word is just as clever of a trick as sleight of hand. who knows? you may end up questioning everything, even your own heart.

one more word of warning before you set sail: be careful of getting in too deep. you just might lose your heart and your head to this magical traveling show.

welcome aboard the RMS Etruria where magic, mischief, and mayhem await your arrival under star-speckled skies.

xoxo

Teaser Tuesday – Stalking Jack the Ripper; Ides of March Style

When we first read Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar in high school, one of the minor characters I was IMMEDIATELY taken with was the soothsayer. He utters the cryptic line, “Beware the Ides of March,” and to this day I can’t help saying it in an overly dramatic/ominous tone.

It was such a small, but significant detail. And the creepy factor? My goodness. Having someone run up and say something awful is going down on a certain date really drums up a little heart-pounding fear. Will Caesar heed his warning? Has his fate been predetermined? We know the outcome LONG before going into it that it doesn’t end well for Caesar, but the soothsayer still added an underlying tone of suspense.

I mean, the guy only had nine lines in the entire play, but his words were a ghost constantly haunting readers. At least, that’s what this reader thought. 😀

What does ANY of this have to do with my teaser Tuesday? Well. Today is the Ides of March, friends. *insert scary music* Since my book is rather on the creepy/gothic side, I’d like to share one of my favorite lines from Stalking Jack the Ripper. It’s from a scene where Audrey Rose promises to be “as silent as the dead” while attending her uncle’s forensic class in disguise. Hope you enjoy it!
