“An intoxicating, tightly plotted feast for the senses with a dramatic cliffhanger.”―Kirkus Reviews

“The characters are richly drawn; the worldbuilding is smart, based on historical events and infused with magic; and the page-turning plot is a force to be reckoned with. Food, family, magic, and romance are threaded into this propulsive story, making it a thrilling, wondrous, and atmospheric tale.”―Booklist

“Lyrical writing and an immersive atmosphere accompany a well-built world rooted in 19th-century Palermo, especially evocative descriptions of food prepared in the family’s restaurant, while intriguing plot twists round off the novel.”―Publishers Weekly

Author, Kerri Maniscalco

  1. Have you thought about submitting any freelance articles to magazines? Or short stories? That’s a nice supplemental income if you’re working from home. You can try this site called duotrope.com it has search criteria you can input to find magazines that match your subject matter. It’s an amazing tool that makes life so much easier.

As far as Examiner.com goes, at the risk of sounding lame – content is king. If you write regularly, stay on topic and just keep plugging away the traffic will eventually grow.

In the beginning I just wrote about local events, and pretty soon record companies were contacting me with pitches. My topic was such a niche market at first that a lot of the people I wrote about all knew each other, and it kept blossoming from there.

It took a little while, but with persistence (and word of mouth help from readers) gaining traffic works. What was your topic? If you were writing regularly and still not seeing traffic, maybe you could try writing about another subject that you like?

Let me know what you think about duotrope. Hope that helps 🙂

    1. Thanks Kerri! Duotrope looks like a great resource. I will definitely check it out. 🙂

As far as Examiner.com goes, I wrote about animal health and based most of my material off what I knew as a veterinary technician. I would cover local clinics, shelters, and programs, but in the veterinary care field, news was sparse in my community.

It didn’t help that I was barely interested in what I was writing and quickly became bored trying to stick to such a specific topic everyday. I think the quality of my writing suffered because of this, too.

Thanks for the advice. If I do return to Examiner.com, I’ll choose a better subject and, if I enjoy it, I think I’d be more likely to keep up with publishing content regularly.

      Thanks again!

  2. Hello Kerri, I know you have moved on from Audrey Rose and Thomas but would you ever consider wrote a couple novellas, more on Thomas or even their agency? I am not a stronger reader and have never wanted to read (age 43). Your books have changed that for me, thank you! I am really looking forward to your next series. Please keep in mind if the novellas, you would have so many fans excited!

  3. This is my most anticipated series in a long time! I lived in Italy for two years and moved back to the US for school, but I miss it so much. And I can’t wait for all of the little phrases and culture bits to be woven into a fantasy story to remind me of home! This is looking to be my favorite series of all time!!! Thank you for writing it!!
