Book Review: FEVER by Lauren DeStefano

Book Review: FEVER

Author: Lauren DeStefano

Genre: YA Science Fiction (Dystopia)

Rating: 5 shiny stars out of 5

Back of book blurb: Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.

Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago – surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.

The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous – and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion…by any means necessary.

In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price – now that she has more to lose than ever

Review: DeStefano’s Chemical Garden Trilogy keeps getting better and better. I adored the first in the series, WITHER and (like many readers) couldn’t WAIT to get my hands on the second installment. As I’ve mentioned before… sequels scare me – they are the ‘make or break’ part for me in a trilogy. That being said… HOLY MOTHER FEVER IS SO GOOD. Like I need to use all caps good and beg, beg, beg you to get a copy so we can talk about the heart pounding action, the page turning awesome, and OMG why is Vaughn so creepy and I hate his basement and the ending will leaving you screaming MOOOOOOOOOORE. PLEASE GOD WHY DO YOU HATE ME?!!!!! I WANT BOOK THREE RIGHT THIS SECOND.

So yeah, I really liked it. I got it yesterday and gobbled it down in one sitting. I even forgot to make tea it’s THAT good. If you like books that are full of atmosphere, creepy as all hell, and filled with a million wonderful things, then FEVER is so for you. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be smashing things in the corner of the room waiting for the final book to come out…next year.
